Thomas Mayer, born 1946 in Switzerland, freelance in Germany since 1969, based in Neuss (between Dusseldorf and Cologne). Photographer for documentary on location in editorial and corporate work, architecture, landscape, people, industrial. Listed by ArchDaily as one of the Top13 architectural photographers 2013.

1968-1974 commercial work as specialist for car photography. Since 1974 editorial photography for magazines like Zeit-Magazin, GEO, Merian, Der Spiegel, Stern. Cooperation with Otl Aicher and his clients BMW, ERCO, Lufthansa and West-LB. Continuous cooperation with ERCO since 1977. With Thomas Rempen long term documentation about the making of the Neue Zollhof Dusseldorf from competition till completion 1989-1999, starting with competition winner Zaha Hadid, realized since 1993 by Frank Gehry. Also in cooperation with Thomas Rempen documentation about the development of the world cultural heritage site Zeche Zollverein in Essen 2002-2007 including the making of the Zollverein School of Management and Design by Sejima and Nishizawa SANAA from competition till completion and the refurbishment of the coal washing plant by OMA/Rem Koolhaas and Böll/Krabel. Cooperation with architects in Germany and abroad. 2003-2006 documentation about the making of Museum MARTa Herford with Gehry Partners. 2006-2009 documentation about the making of Fabrikstrasse 15 on Novartis Campus Basel with Gehry Partners. 2010-2013 documentation “harbour life” about the harbor Neuss.
